Gum tragacanth
A brief description
Tragacanth gum is a natural resin obtained from the sap of several species of the genus Astragalus, such as Astralagus gummifer.
The gum seeps from an incision in the upper part of the root in the form of twisted ribbons. After it has been dried the gum is exported.
We grind and treat it in order to minimise microbiological contamination. Tragacanth gum is composed of a mix of water-soluble polysaccharides, which creates a highly viscous, taste- and odourless solution. The solutions are heat-stable and can be deployed over a wide pH range. There are numerous grades with differing colours, viscosity and prices.
